(Model III/4/4P/4D)

Tandy's first hi-res board was for the Model II computer(cat. no. 26-4104), which was quickly followed by the Model III hi-res board (cat. no. 26-1125). Finally when the Model 4 was released a hi-res board was available (cat. no. 26-1126). All these hi-res boards were very expensive and sold in small numbers and had little software support from Radio Shack. µLabs produced a compatible, but less expensive Model 4 hi-res board called the Grafyx Solution along with a catalogue of software. All these boards featured 640x240 (153,600 pixels) resolution and special BASIC language upgrade which included commands like LINE, CIRCLE, PAINT, and VIEWPORT.

By the mid-1980s a reasonable number of interesting and sophisticated software packages had been released for the Model III/4 hi-res boards. This page aims to have these software packages available for download, and a place to buy the necessary hardware - some in kit form, some fully assembled - to upgrade your Model III, 4, 4P or 4D for hi-res graphics.

This is my latest hi-res graphics (HRG) board based on the old µLabs GX 5.1 board which has been unavailable since the late 1980s. This one utilises an updated design with fewer chips, smaller footprint, while still having a 25% performance increase over Tandy's HRG and compatible with most software for both the GX 4.2, 5.1, and Tandy's HRG.

- ADVANCED KIT FOR EXPERIENCED ELECTRONICS ENTHUSIASTS -

In the kit: reproduction PCB, 2 pre-programmed GALs, 2 pre-programmed PROMs, an LTC1799 Xtal chip, BOM and basic construction details. Works on the Model III and can be modified to work on the Model 4 non-gate array computer.

NOTE: requires extensive soldering skill, as well as cable assembly skills, sheet metal skill (to mount the board in the system), and the ability to obtain hard-to-locate obsolete parts. I may question your ability before selling the kit as this is not for novice electronics learners, and if I feel you may run into trouble completing the kit I may chose not to sell it - don't mind me, I'm just looking out for your best interests.
